Soay sheep are probably the most ancient of sheep that have remained unchanged since the Iron Age. They originated on the Scottish St. Kilda Islands. Soays are so primitive they are classified as a rare and vulnerable breed by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.

Our Soays have fleece that is dark or blond with a short staple length of approximately two or three inches.

Jacob sheep were in existence in Biblical times and take their name from the story of Jacob told in the Old Testament Book of Genesis.

Their fleece is white with black or dark coloured spots and our Jacob fleeces are carefully sorted to give four beautiful natural fleece colours.

Our soft lambs’ wool comes mainly from lambs that we have produced by selective cross-breeding with our Shetland and Jacob sheep. Hence the natural rich chocolate colour of this yarn.
